The Christian Lewis Trust is a Children's Cancer Charity based in Swansea
- helping to improve the quality of life of children with cancer throughout
the UK.
Who are they?. . . . .
Established in 1989, Christian Lewis Trust works alongside medical professionals
to improve the quality of life for children with cancer. They are a national
charity that complements and adds value to the services provided by the
statutory authorities.
Play Therapy. . . . .
Play for a child with a life-threatening condition is an important healing
mechanism. Play Therapists use play and creative arts to help children
express their feelings and experiences, enabling them to come to terms
with pain, suffering, abnormal life and even bereavement. Through the
safety of play the charity can help children affected by cancer, to try
and come to terms with their situation.
Currently the charity employs 2 full time Play Therapists, based in
South Wales, working in partnership with the primary health care team
at the
local Regional Oncology Centre. The Play Therapists see the children
in Hospital, in their Homes, at School, in the Charity's fully equipped
Play
Room or such other convenient venues.
Holidays. . . . .
Especially co-ordinated 'stress-free' programmes that ensure that families
who need a break in the UK or wish to visit Disneyland Paris and Disney
World, Florida do not have to worry about anything other than enjoying
themselves.
UK - At four specially chosen sites on the beautiful Welsh coastline,
in luxury equipped mobile homes, an opportunity for families to spend
quality time together and enjoy a complimentary break away from the stresses
of the illness.
Befriending. . . . .
Befriending, either face to face or by telephone, is available for anyone
whose life has been affected by a child with cancer and offers a confidential
"Listening Ear" that understands the many problems and difficulties
associated with children who have cancer.
Bereavement. . . . .
The Charity offers 'one to one' bereavement and pre-bereavement support
for both children and parents. It also runs Support Groups helping grandparents,
parents and siblings to express the feelings associated with grief. Offering
an opportunity of meetings others who have had similar experiences.
Why choose the Christian Lewis Trust?. . . . .
Manorbier Country Park is one of the four specially chosen sites used
for the UK holidays for the Trust. Bob McHarg, the owner, proposed the
charity in light of this and has also kindly donated his Squadron Fairline
58' Motor Cruiser to support this event.
